I wanted to create a simple, yet festive feel for Halloween this year. Something that would be fun for my little boy (he’s three and a half) to enjoy without being too spooky. So I started my search via Pinterest and instantly fell in love with the idea of bats. I thought it would be super fun to apply them in a way that actually made them look as if they were coming up and out of the fireplace.

I started by mapping out a pattern in my mind of what might seem like a realistic way a group of bats would naturally disperse. Then once I had envisioned the way I wanted them to look, I simply started sticking on a few at the bottom and then worked my way up. Something to note, is that I did only stick on a handful of bats using the tiny stickers that come in the package. I then left them on overnight to see if they would cause any issues with my paint on the wall. I did this to be extra cautious since we had just painted our entire house a couple of months prior. To my delight, I awoke the next morning, carefully pulled off the bats I had stuck on the night before and found that NO damage had occurred to the new paint or to the wall. HOORAY!
A few other decor touches I added to give a nice festive look were some faux ravens, a posable skeleton that is 5ft tall, and an assortment of faux pumpkins. I perched the ravens on our built-in shelves as well as on the pumpkins and then sat Mr. Bones (what my son named him) in one of the chairs.
So far I am really loving all of these fun decor pieces I bought, and know I will use them each year, but my top two favorite things have to be the bats and the pumpkins. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the faux pumpkins that I found. Most are ceramic and come in a range of sizes. I also LOVE that they all have a nice soothing neutral tone. Neutrals are my go-to for home and holiday decor.
